As the summer draws to a close, I can't help but think about all of the things I didn't get accomplised. Adam, however, reminded me that I did get a lot done. I had a fairly successful garage sale; we went to Hawaii, for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation; I actually finished the scrapbook within the same month (amazing!); I painted our bathroom (even though it turned out too yellowish); Mikayla became a proficient swimmer (we went swimming at least twice a week); Mikayla got her first library card; Macey pooped in the potty (hey, small victories!); we went to Houston to see La-La, Justin and the kids. There were a lot of other smaller things, too.
I started back to professional development inservice last week, and the girls went back to McDonald's ChildCare in Justin. It's been an adjustment back to living on a schedule, as it is every August when we head back to school. The girls have been grumpy and cranky most of the time in the afternoons, because they are so tired. That makes for lovely family time when I get home grumpy and cranky, too!
Mikayla's "Meet the Teacher Night" was last Thursday, so we got to go up to Clara Love Elementary to meet Kim Farrow, Mikayla's Kindergarten teacher. I've heard some great things about Mrs. Farrow, and she's the teacher I was really hoping and praying Mikayla would get. Mikayla's best friend Willow, who lives across the street, is in her same class, so both girls are quite excited about that. It didn't go quite how we wanted it to go. A little boy came up to her and introduced himself. Mikayla uncharacteristically hid behind me when he spoke, and she eventually started crying. Part of it is that she was quite tired, but I really don't know why she acted that way. Other than that, she was excited to meet her teacher, and she had to give her a present. We bought a cup with flowers on it, and Mikayla wanted to make Mrs. Farrow lemonade, but I talked her into just giving her the lemonade and letting Mrs. Farrow make her own lemonade.
This weekend, Adam and I were talking to Mikayla about the planets. Adam asked her, "What planet it closest to the sun?" She replied, "Mercury!" Then we were going to name the other planets. I told her the next planet is Venus. She quickly copied what I said, except she didn't make the "V" sound. She made a "P" sound instead when she shouted "Venus!" Adam and I couldn't stop laughing.
Friday night, we went to the Rangers game, and we sat in the "All You Can Eat" seats. Both girls ate more food than they could handle, including nachos, hot dogs, popcorn and peanuts. They also were allowed to drink Dr Pepper and eat cotton candy, so they were wired! We sat inside for most of the game, because it was so hot. Jane, Robert, Ross and his friend Cole were all there, too.
